Revitalizing the Economy
Protecting our economy and putting citizens back to work is a priority for a Congressman Jones.

Our economy remains stagnant and unemployment is unacceptably high. This Administration has proliferated a hostile environment that is sustaining that stagnation and high unemployment numbers. Small businesses have been burdened with a health care law they didn’t want and higher regulation and taxes they can’t afford.

I know we must end the uncertainty small businesses face and start pushing common-sense policies to spur innovation, development and job creation. Cut the red tape. Lower our taxes. Stop the out-of-control spending. Let’s get our economy moving in the right direction.

Health Care

There is no question that our health care system needs to be reformed. Costs continue to rise and far too many are unable to purchase coverage for their families, but that didn’t require a complete takeover of our current system. I support revamping the massive healthcare power-grab by the federal government and restoring it with measures that would ensure that American families have access to affordable and quality care—this can be done without breaking the bank.

I support legislation called the “Healthcare Insurance Affordability Act.” This would provide every American the ability to deduct 100 percent of the cost of their health insurance premiums.

A Congressman Jones believes that affordable and accessible health care is a basic right for all Americans, and that health insurance is an investment not only in quality of life for our citizens, but also in our economy.

Energy

America must move towards energy independence in a manner that does not threaten the environment, or kill job creation. I believe we need to consider all available options including wind, solar, bio, nuclear and drilling right here at home. I am a strong proponent for the Keystone XL pipeline that would bring thousands of barrels of oil to the U.S. each day, not to mention, create thousands of American jobs. Some of those jobs would be created right here in Philadelphia, PA, and in new manufacturing, assembling, testing and distributing plants.

A Congressman Jones believes the nation should move towards the expansion of and support for renewable energy sources that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Government Spending

I believe the federal government should have to operate in a fiscally responsible manner, just as most American families and small businesses do. The money being spent by the government is your money. That’s why I have been a consistent advocate for a balanced budget amendment to our Constitution. This year we’ve surpassed $15 trillion in debt! This is unacceptable. It’s time that Congress makes the tough decisions to stop wasteful government spending.

Protecting Social Security

Social Security provides critical benefits to more than 50 million Americans and I firmly believe that these benefits must be protected. That is why I am against the privatization of Social Security as well as any cuts to our Social Security program. Unfortunately, the Democrats’ big-spending agenda is threatening the solvency of our Social Security system. In 2009, the Social Security trustees predicted that Social Security would start paying out more in benefits than it collects in taxes in 2016. Though this is a grim forecast, cutting benefits is not an option that I would support.

One of the biggest problems is that the money taken out of a person’s paycheck for Social Security is spent by Congress on other things. That’s why I support the “Social Security Preservation Act” which would have required that every penny taken out of a person’s paycheck for Social Security, could only be used for Social Security, and nothing else.

Veterans

As a Vietnam Veteran, we can never do enough to repay the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who served in our country’s armed forces. As the grandson son of a World War I veteran, I believe it is of the upmost importance that we honor the service and sacrifice of our men and women in the United States military. Our veterans deserve the deep appreciation of our country as well as access to quality health care, job training, and the benefits they have earned. I will use my position on the Appropriations committee to ensure that our veterans are receiving and have easy access to the resources they have earned.

As a grateful nation, we must do everything in our power to ensure that these men and women are receiving the care and resources they need. I will always be a strong supporter of legislation and funding efforts that would ensure veterans access to medical care, education and financial services.

Education

A Congressman Jones believes that improving education and providing the opportunity for all citizens to access quality education needs to be a number one priority.

Defense & National Security

As the U.S. continues to face challenges to our national security, it is imperative that we continue to be the greatest military power in the world as well as an agent for peace. As the son of a World War II veteran, I know that a strong national defense is crucial to our nation’s well-being. With my position on the Appropriations committee, I will work to ensure that Congress does everything in its power to guarantee our military leaders are receiving the resources they need to protect our nation.

Economy and Jobs

Creating jobs and growing the economy must be the number one priority for this Congress. For too long, regulations and taxes coming out of Washington have discouraged job growth. It is well overdue that Washington get out of the way and allow Pennsylvania businesses to do what they do best: create jobs. Additionally, we must address our nation’s growing debt crisis, which breeds economic uncertainty and discourages job growth. It is my number one priority to do everything possible to encourage job creation and economic growth in Pennsylvania, including fighting for lower taxes and against unnecessary regulations that inhibit the growth of small business.

National Debt

It is absolutely imperative that Washington get its spending problem under control. Every American family has been forced to watch what they spend, and it is high time for Washington to do the same. Our bloated government continues to be a drag on economic growth, and has burdened every American with a $50,000 share of its debt, and rising. Today, China owns a staggering $1.16 trillion in United States debt. This path is simply unsustainable. Only when Congress implements a responsible and substantive plan to reduce our debt will the economy get back on track.

Tax Reform

At a time in which American families and small businesses are struggling, the last thing they need is to be burdened with higher taxes. While serving as Small Business Owner and Consultant, I worked to save and protect clients and customers taxpayer dollars by ensuring education spending was invested in the students, not spent on outside legal services. I plan on continuing my history of protecting Pennsylvania taxpayers by using my position on the Appropriations Committee to ensure that American tax dollars are being used in an efficient and responsible way. I will support a tax reform plan that eases the burden of taxes on small businesses and families, and lets Pennsylvanians keep more of their own hard-earned money.

Seniors

America’s seniors have earned their Medicare and it is crucial that we ensure they receive their rightful Medicare benefits. According to the President’s own Medicare actuaries, the Medicare trust fund will go bankrupt by 2024. I will work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that the Medicare promise will be there for all seniors.
